We are thrilled to announce that our Christian’s Cuvée Merlot has earned 94 pts and a place among the top 20 merlots in VinePair’s exclusive list for 2025.
The wine, a tribute to the late Christian Wölffer and the legacy he left behind, is described as, “so Long Island,” by author Keith Beavers. This speaks to the growing distinction East End wines are beginning to achieve, something Christian would have been proud of. Beavers continues with his review noting that this Merlot is the kind of wine, “you want to decant and watch evolve sip by sip,” highlighting its natural complexity and elevated flavor profile.
For years, Merlot’s identity has been unfairly caricatured, yet bottles like Christian’s Cuvée remind us why the variety once reigned supreme. When handled with patience and vision, Merlot is not soft or simple; it is structured, expressive, and deeply moving.
Wölffer’s achievement is not just about a score or a list placement. It represents the continued evolution of Long Island as a serious wine region, capable of crafting reds that demand a place at the global table.
