Wölffer Estate Vineyard this week received the highest scores ever awarded to a Long Island wine, ever! Mark Squires, reviewer for Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, visited the vineyard in April as part of a tour of East Coast wineries. His assessment of our wines included two 94-point ratings, one for our Diosa Late Harvest 2012 and one for Descencia Botrytis Chardonnay 2012. In addition to the two 94s, our scores were: two 92s, five 91s, five 90s, two 89s and one 87. See the complete review here."Wölffer is one of the region’s flagships," Mark says. "If I had to name a 'short list' of top wineries in the region, this would have to be on it, without requiring any thought. Under winemaker/partner Roman Roth and Vineyard Manager Rich Pisacano, this winery excels in making age-worthy, structured wines."We're very proud, not only of Mark's kind words about Wölffer, but of his review of the region as a whole. Long Island, Mark concludes, is focused very carefully and there are a lot of producers with track records who are making fine wines that age and perform at a high level. The wines have a classic feel. Their direction is clear. The focus on quality is evident.”Read the full report, "USA, East Coast: The Sun Rises in the East," published on June 30.
