Mulled Wine Now Served!

It's back! Now, through the colder months, when you visit our tasting room, indulge in a mug of Glühwein, as it's known in Germany, or mulled wine as we know it here in the States. The base of our warm, spicy brew is the wine that exceeds the barrel capacity for our 2014 reds. Cool! If you make this wine at home, we invite you to use our Sagaponack Red or any other Wölffer red. And feel free to use our recipe, courtesy of Retail Sales Director Suellen Tunney, below.Wölffer Glühwein1 (750-ml) bottle Sagaponack Red or other red wine1/4 cup sugar (more to taste)2 cinnamon sticks1 orange, zested or peeled4 whole cloves3 star anise pods4 oranges, peeled, for garnishCombine the wine, sugar, cinnamon sticks, zest of one orange, cloves and star anise in a large saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Strain and pour into mugs, add an orange peel to each for garnish.  Serves 4
